Tennis Skills for Life

A Tennis Leaderby Oscar

For nearly half a decade, I’ve played tennis with TwistFizz. I had been introduced to assisting and coaching through the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze which I started in 2019, just before the Lockdown. Sadly, I was unable to complete the DofE Bronze but over 2019 and early 2020 I completed 6 months of volunteering with TwistFizz. That showed me that I was able to help inside of my own community as well as help support my own tennis skills through teaching and guiding young people. After Lockdown in 2020 I completed the Tennis Leader work-shop along with others from TwistFizz, in which we went through different scenarios in tournament play, sessions and fun games. Taking the Tennis Leader qualification enabled me to broaden the support I could give to the coaches within the sessions I assisted. Through various courses, like my LTA Level 1 Assistant coach qualification, I’ve progressed to leading a small group within a coaching session, it’s helped me to become more confident as well as build transferable skills such as quick-thinking and discipline. Furthermore, being on the TwistFizz steering group as the representative for young people has given me an insight into TwistFizz and how to help the community directly.
